SER/VE: Technology and Research Tools Certificates allow K12 students and educators to learn the fundamental tools related to 21st century learning and communication technologies, using the virtual context to help support learning. Many of these certificates will be required to participate in the Quests which will apply these tools to new situations. When you are learning these tools -- or advancing your knowledge in these areas -- you will work with research ideas that come from your classroom or that are supplied by SER/VE.

SER/VE: Research & Technology Tools -- PowerPoint - gather research and data from educational and government websites and bring them into creative PowerPoint slides where you use schematics and SmartArt to explain your insights, copy-pasting and notes to document key information, animations and animated drawings to point to primary features, and arrange and rearrange slides to ensure the presentation is meaningful.
SER/VE: Research & Technology Tools -- YouTube- the use of videos for capturing events, activities, and learning experiences is becoming easy and available. As directed by your virtual instructor, you will prepare a worthy project, tape and upload it, and send an unlisted (private) link to your instructor for review.
SER/VE: Research & Technology Tools -- Google Earth- using satellite mapping to find location on the earth is required in many science and engineering jobs. Learn how to find and map maps, use the various layers to find different types of information, and upload images.
SER/VE: Technology & Research Tools - Spreadsheets - being able to store, graph, sort, and filter data is important in many STEM (science technology engineering & math) areas. Learn how to create and use your own spreadsheets to understand trends and patterns within information that you are gathering.
SER/VE: Technology & Research Tools -- Websites & Wikis- foundational to most technology-mediated activities, including the ones within SER/VE, are a variety of technology tools; learn about or advance your skills in areas ranging from PowerPoint and graphics and animations; to making private YouTubes; to using Google Earth to locate areas; to creating, storing, and sorting digital photographs; to saving e-bookmarks. You will learn how to use these tools and earn certificates while you research areas of your school interest or areas that you are assigned.
